Old Gas Pump

Motivated by high gas prices, thieves have turned to stealing gas from vehicles, instead of the vehicles themselves.

Some states are reporting substantial increases in gasoline theft.

The thefts are mostly relegated to business and commercial vehicles that are left unattended overnight and weekends. These types of vehicles often have much larger tanks. Thieves are slicing the gas line, and inserting the line into a standard garden hose which runs to a container.

If the trend gains momentum, and gas prices continue to surge, it would not seem far fetched for thieves to target those "regular" vehicles that appear vulnerable.

The next trend? People putting alarms on gas tanks, perhaps??
